Fundraising for St. Matthais
Fundraiser #1
Starting September 11, 2011 St. Matthias will take advantage of the Safeway stores shopping card and rebate program. We will use this opportunity to raise funds for building maintenance and paying down the mortgage as well as future roof repairs. We request your support by ordering Safeway purchase cards through your Church.
Just imagine if most Safeway shoppers in the parish planned to purchase these shopping cards through the Church to do their Safeway shopping!
How does it work?
1. Most everyone purchases groceries, prescriptions; car gas ...that's what makes this fund raiser so easy, no one buys anything they wouldn't normally purchase.
2. The cards are used like cash at any Safeway throughout Canada or the U.S.A., e.g. a $50 gift card buys $50 of purchases; there are no hidden rules.
3. The card does not have to be used all at one time. Each card has a declining balance that can be used over several shopping trips until there is no value left on the card.
4. There is no expiry date!
5. The cards are purchased through our Church in a variety of denominations from $20.00 right up to $500.00
6. Air Miles and Safeway Club cards can be presented along with the purchase cards so that the user will be credited with the usual discounts and Air Miles.
7. As well as using the cards for your own shopping needs the cards make great gifts to give to families, seniors, employees, "starving " students, even our own cookie chefs (leading up to Dec. 3rd Advent Parish Luncheon) - to name a few.
How does St. Matthias get credit?
In return for purchasing Safeway shopping cards in a block, Safeway gives a percentage cash rebate on the total value of cards sold.
For example, on total sales of $10,000.00 the Church receives an 8% or $800.00 cash rebate. If there are only sales of $7500, then only 6% or $450.00 is the cash rebate to St Mattias.
St Matthias’ own Julie Filiatrault (of Messy Church fame!!) will be the “GO TO” person for coordinating the orders, collection of cheques and distribution of the plastic “just- like-money” cards! This is an exciting prospect for St Matthias and a “Win-Win” concept for all of us. Last month, the Parish bought $10,000.00 worth of cards yielding an $800.00 return to St Matthias. Thank you all for participating!
Fundraiser #2
We have now concluded the volunteer work assignments at Commonwealth Stadium for 2011. There will be a report out to the congregation regarding the financial “rewards” of this venture. St Matthias Church appreciates the time and hard work that each of the volunteers provided at each of those 12 events.
A more comprehensive statement will be issued at a later date. It also must be determined whether we carry on one more year with this particular form of fund raising… in the 2012 football season.
